PROFILE
Never feeling the need to limit to any style of production, Depthcharge Studios has successfully produced many variations of hip hop, metal, hardcore, pop, indie rock, spoken word, and electronic acts. Chris' mixes have also been played on local and international radio stations, including a number one single on a UK chart.

Depthcharge Studios founder Chris Dang has been writing, producing and recording since 1991. Starting out after high school, he was a key player in the early Canadian west coast hip hop scene.

As well as being in his own crew, he produced and recorded many artists from greater Vancouver and Vancouver island. It was then that he first started his skill of sample and sound manipulation.

Not being content with the confines of a four track tape recorder and an amiga computer, he completed a recording engineering program at Turtle Studios
in 1993, and continued to work in-house for the next 8 months.

In 1995 he continued to expand his musical direction by leaving hip hop to take on lead vocals and programming in an Industrial/Speed Metal band.

A year later, he co-founded Adrenaline Sound Studios with Lee Preston (Greenhouse studios SSL engineer, and ex-assistant engineer from Roundhouse
Studios in London, England) where he wrote, produced, engineered and started to explore web site design for the newly emerging internet, and interactive CD Rom technology.

Under Lee's tutelage, Chris refined his art of record engineering, learning how to achieve a great sound within the boundaries of a home studio. It was here too that he first began to leave analogue for the new digital audio via the computer.

Feeling the need to expand on these new techniques, he once again shifted gears in late 1997. Chris rejoined the music scene with a new electronic/ pop/rock band where he explored the art of electronica mixed with a live band.

After releasing an EP and receiving some interest from major record labels, the project hit an unfortunate halt in 2000 and he realized it was time to once again go back in the studio.

After working in temporary facilities, the green light was finally given to finance the new studio in spring 2004. Depthcharge Studios was built with the help of fellow bandmates (a skilled carpenter and an electrician).

Since then, Chris has produced and recorded a diversity of the lower mainland's most unique and hard working bands.

Chris currently programs and plays guitar in Autoviolet, guest DJs underground club nights, as well as producing and engineering for Depthcharge Studios.
